Once Upon a School

Once Upon a School: Dave Eggers

I invite you to watch this video, then let’s discuss it!

Schools in most of communities play many roles. In addition to providing for basic education, they serve as social and cultural centers. They are places for sports, theater, music, and other civic activities. Over 20 years ago. Alan Peshkin (1978, 1982) showed how vital a school must be…. The question is…Are you really involve in it?  If you work focusing on what we need to do for young children so that they will thrive and be able to get the best out of life. Maybe you are doing well!

  2. The difference between that school and our ones is motivation. Likewise, teachers are volunteers there and, in that way, they only mind to contribute. It is also known if we want to offer one on one attention, time is required, but most of the schools don’t count on this kind of guarantee, especially in Colombia. However, such a dream is only possible with a joint effort among teachers, students, parents and even the neighborhood. Finally, I consider the key of success is the outcome, because when students improve, everything is possible.

  3. Education is a social responsibility, I mean, the ideal is that everybody help to improve our society with every single activity, for example: helping old people in the streets, telling children old and new stories to develop or reinforce creativity and imagination, taking every situation to teach values, and seeing how to respect the rights.

However, families (usually) leave this responsibility to the school, teacher has become in children's parents; not only a guide or a partner to learn and construct the knowledge.

  4. Knowledge and experience are two words that have been used many times by all generations, but on many occasions not been given due prominence.
As teachers receive information that we convey to our students so versatile and effective. But we are still governed by traditional methods to new generations do not impact.
So, the calling we have is tested, using authentic experience and motivation. How to have a positive effect with great results if we do not believe in ourselves? Why sometimes we confine our ideas only by prejudice? I mean, why not catch up for children to understand their tastes, needs, abilities and from these tools to motivate them to grow holistically?
"Give them the opportunity to be creative, to say what they think, express themselves create spaces that feel authentic, wanting to explore and invent".

If we do not know how to do it,is time to remember as we would have liked it to be our education, skills were not reinforced and that could have changed. Also remember with pleasure the good and bad experiences that motivated us to be who we are. Of these memories and reflections get the keys to give students the chance to see the study as the best experience of their lives.
